Tony Bettencourt's goal was to bring big-city fine dining to the small North Shore city of Salem when he opened 62 on Wharf in February. He's done it with mom-and-pop appeal. Wife Valerie typically works the door while Bettencourt (Metro, UpStairs on the Square, Tomasso Trattoria) runs the kitchen. Both make it a point to greet as many guests as possible.

At the Salem restaurant, Sixty2 on Wharf, chef and co-owner Antonio (Tony) Bettencourt is making Mediterranean dishes such as char-grilled lamb steak with farro, green olives, and almonds. The former Tomasso Trattoria chef says, "This dish has almost a Spanish flair. It typifies my cooking in that it is rustic and chunky, with whole herbs, segments of Meyer lemons instead of lemon juice."

Sixty2 on Wharf has a prime location which will undoubtedly pay huge dividends in the spring, summer and throughout tourist season. From outside we see an inviting, well-stocked bar and plenty of dining area. Upon entering, we were greeted by a hostess and promptly seated.
